Bob had always loved a particular house in his hometown of Brentwood, Pennsylvania. He thought it looked like it should be the home of a statesman. When he got the call that the current owner was putting it on the market, the family paid a visit.

Even though the house had a couple of eccentricities, the Cranmers fell even more in love with the place. Bob made the owner an offer that he thought the owners agreed to just a little too quickly. When Bob asked if there was anything wrong with the house, the then-owner told him no ... and made a point of mentioning that they had conducted Mass in the living room.

As the Cranmers moved in, things slowly began to become unnerving. When Lesa, Bob's wife, ripped out the wallpaper in one room, she found large letters underneath stating that "This Is Our Home."

When she stepped in a strange, goopy puddle in the hallway that appeared to have no source, Lesa just added it to the list of oddities. Another puddle in the bathroom got her attention, as it had an old musty smell.

Bob had some curious things happen as well. On several nights, when he came home from work, he would reach into the front hall closet to hang up his jacket ... only to see the chain for the light wrapped around the shade.

One day, Bobby had been home sick from school. As he attempted to rest in his bedroom, he began seeing things, including a strange man walking through the house. It disturbed him so much that when Lesa returned home later that day, she found Bobby hiding in his closet.

The Cranmers shifted bedrooms, and Bob and Lesa ended up in Bobby's old room. Bobby got better, but Lesa began to change. She had no energy and was unable to function. Not even the return of her eldest daughter and grandson to the house to live with them brought Lesa out of her stupor.

Bob noticed the severe change in his wife's personality and grew more concerned. He began to search through the entire bedroom, hunting for a reason that might explain Lesa's state. He found a box full of unpaid bills, collection notices, and judgments against the family. When he tried to confront her about the box, Lesa immediately broke down and begged him to do something about whatever was in the house.

Bob became a believer when he heard pounding on the wall and a loud bang from the basement. Investigating, he was met with a noxious smell and an ominous feeling. Was he alone down there? Bob saw a black shape move right in front of him, and he quickly realized that they were sharing the house with something else. In an attempt to protect the children from what was happening, Bob and Lesa decided not to tell them about it.

As Bob held his terrified grandson after the boy had seen the entity haunting the house, he knew that he had to do something to fight back and save his family. Bob and Lesa found a rental property that Jessica and Collin could stay in.

Through his connections, Bob was put in touch with Father Ron Lengwin in Pittsburgh. Father Lengwin knew things about the Cranmers' home that Bob didn't think it was possible for the man to know, as he'd never been in the house. Father Lengwin told Bob that while his presence would do more harm than good at that moment, it was up to Bob to decide if they were going to move out, or stay and fight. The Cranmers did not hesitate: they would stay and fight.

A researcher hired by Bob to look into the house's history discovered that a pediatrician had lived there. That pediatrician had apparently performed illegal abortions in the very room where first Bobby, then Lesa, had become affected as they slept.

Father Lengwin pointed Bob toward the closet with the troublesome light chain. Bob broke through the back wall and found two items: the skeleton of a bird and a crumpled piece of paper. Bob opened the paper and found a terrifying sketch ...

The drawing was of an ancient Canaanite god called Molech, and Bob believed that the pediatrician had been using the aborted fetuses as sacrifices. He took that information to Father Lengwin, who said it was time to call in the exorcist.

The house kept making efforts to get the family to leave. One attempt included what appeared to be blood running down the walls outside the now-infamous bedroom.

Lesa helped the exorcist and his assistant set up an altar in the basement near the furnace. It was a hard-fought battle, but eventually, there was calm. The house appeared to be "clean."

Bob still had one lingering question: how had Father Lengwin known so much about his house? It turned out that Father Lengwin had been given all of the information by a friend whom he considered to be a mystic with an ability to "see evil." That friend had been able to see the old pediatrician and knew what had happened. Bob finally had a sense of closure on the whole ordeal.
