Oh, Jones. She only loves her daughter, the splinter machine, hope for the future, and cigarettes. And now that Cole is lost in time and not coming back, we’re going to jump back to…

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_02_0.jpg
136456

New York City, 2015, where Jones and her father are having a conversation about quantum splintering. She looks great! And the world is still pre-outbreak!

Poor Jones, 2015 her just wanted to go home and have a glass of wine and many, many cigarettes and watch Jeopardy. But no, Cassie Railly is here with bad news.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_04_0.jpg
136466

When Cole has a (what are we calling this?) quantum seizure (?), Aaron has to administer the epinephrine to bring him back to life.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_05_0.jpg
136471

Meanwhile, Jones gets the lowdown from Cassie on what, exactly, she is doing with the Project Splinter research. And that leads her to decide to help Cole.

In 2043, Jones decides to search through the archives to find new leads on the 12 Monkeys. And what she comes across is that Markridge got a new CEO in 2015. Want to guess whom?

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_07_0.jpg
136481

Yes, Jennifer Goines stages an insane takeover of the Markridge Group. Say what you want about her but that Jennifer Goines puts on an excellent show.

136486

And here’s where Jones gets an idea – that if they can introduce Cole's uncorrupted DNA to his system, it could heal him.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_09_0.jpg
136491

When Aaron reaches his breaking point with all of this time travel and genocide business, he makes a deal with Olivia: she'll guarantee their safety, if he'll give her information.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_10_0.jpg
136496

Meanwhile, Jones and Cassie take off to find the child version of James Cole, who is on a squeaky old swing set, oblivious to what comes next.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_11_0.jpg
136501

Cole's dad is not amused when Cassie tells him what they need younger Cole for. He tells them to go, but is intrigued when Cassie mentions the Army of the 12 Monkeys – he's heard it before. From Cole's MOTHER!

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_12_0.jpg
136506

And now for something completely different: Jones finds that there are red vines growing on the splinter chair that Cole takes off from and wants to know how they got there. Turns out? They’re from the past.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_13_0.jpg
136511

When Cole gets too close to his younger self, he is escorted back to bed by his father, who reveals some facts about Cole's mother, who left him with Cole Senior saying she “couldn't protect him.”

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_14_0.jpg
136516

When the Pallid Man and Olivia's henchmen come for Cole, Cassie acts fast and gets younger Cole out of the bookstore.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_15_0.jpg
136521

The Pallid Man kills Cole Senior, forcing Cole, Jr. to watch the whole thing. (Explains the flashbacks for Cole, no?)

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_16_0.jpg
136526

When the Pallid Man catches up with Cole in the bookstore, the blood comes in handy as Cole creates a paradox that causes an explosion.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_17_0.jpg
136531

After the paradox and the explosion, Cole is naked and seemingly healed of his quantum cell-division problem.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_18_0.jpg
136536

Now that Cole has been healed by his own blood, he can't travel through time anymore, and also Jones agrees not to see them ever again.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_19_0.jpg
136541

And one more 2015 introduction: Ladies and Gents, the introduction of James Cole and Jose Ramse.

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_20_0.jpg
136546

Meanwhile, there are some pretty serious problems in 2043, as Whitley returns with a severed head and a warning: “They're coming.” Who?! Who's coming?!

12Monkeys_gallery_112Recap_21_0.jpg
136551

These people. With their spooky dead-people faces. This is whom Whitley means. And yeah, they want to work their way into the compound. And our nightmares.
